Students will be placed in groups of four to explore websites to find out some general biographical information on William Shakespeare and the play. Keep these questions in mind as you complete the tasks below. What are the relations of the characters? Who are the major characters? Why do you think this play is known as a tragedy? The following jobs will be assigned to the students prior to completing the task by using last names in alphabetical order beginning with the focuser, then the reporter, the noise controller, and last the computer operator, until each person has been assigned a job. Task One Each of you will be required to analyze critical data on the play and Shakespeare. Divide the questions evenly between the four members of your group. There are a total of twenty questions, so each person will be given four questions (at teacher's discretion). Each student will be required to use the website to locate the critical data, but only one person from the group will type the data into the word document. Task Two The next task to complete is the identification of the main characters in the play and to take the online practice quiz over the characters. Students will do this as a group. The quiz is only for fun! Task Three Afterwards, your group will direct themselves to a website in which the entire group will read one scene of Hamlet (each group assigned a different scene by the teacher). (Books can be used if desired). Each group will have to locate five new vocabulary terms from the scene read and will define the terms by visiting the On-Line Shakespearean Glossary. Task Four After reading the assigned scene, each individual student must identify a specific theme and write two paragraphs discussing the theme. Task Five After each student has written two paragraphs on a theme, they will share their writing with members of their group. Terms found in the online glossary will be shared with the class.
